Shibori is the art of Japanese shaped resist dyeing.
Cloth tightly compressed into folds or wrinkles resists the penetration of dye providing an opportunity to let the pliancy of textiles speak in making designs and patterns.
No other country has understood and applied this with as much ingenuity as the Japanese, for whom shaping cloth by plucking, pinching, twisting, stiching, folding, pleating and wrapping and then securing shapes by binding, looping, knotting and clamping - has produced the tradition known as Shibori,
What to Bring
Fabric about 2 m- must be natural fibre (cotton, silk, linen) and washed to remove all starches
Strong thread (button / carpet thread) needles, scissors, rubber gloves, apron (old clothes), plastic bag, small jars (if you would like to purchase chemicals to make your own dyebath)
Visual Diary and pencil for notes and samples.
